How to check your mutual fund KYC status (and what each status means)

Mutual fund KYC is a one-time process for the whole industry — once your PAN is KYC verified with any registered KRA, it works across every fund house in India. All you need to check it is your PAN and date of birth, and it takes about two minutes.

Check your KYC status in five steps

  1. 1

Keep your PAN and date of birth ready

That is all a KRA enquiry needs. You never need a password, OTP or bank detail to check your own KYC status — anyone asking for those is not a KRA.

  2. 2

Open the CVL KRA PAN enquiry page

Enter your PAN in capitals, add your date of birth if the form asks for it, submit the captcha and you will see the KYC status recorded against your PAN.

  3. 3

If CVL shows no record, check KFintech KRA

Your PAN is held by whichever KRA processed your first KYC. A blank result at one KRA usually means the record sits with another, not that you have no KYC.

  4. 4

Read the status shown against your PAN

The screen shows one of: KYC Validated, KYC Registered, Under Process, On Hold or Rejected. Each one allows a different set of transactions.

  5. 5

    Act on the status

Validated needs nothing. Registered lets you keep investing with existing fund houses but may block new ones. On Hold or Rejected needs a re-KYC before any fresh purchase goes through.

What each KYC status means

The wording differs slightly between KRAs, but every result maps to one of these five states.

StatusWhat it meansWhat to do
KYC ValidatedYour PAN is Aadhaar-linked and your details have been validated by the KRA against the source.Nothing to do. You can invest with any fund house, existing or new, without repeating KYC.
KYC RegisteredYour KYC is complete but was done with a document set the KRA has not validated against Aadhaar. You can usually continue with fund houses you already hold. A new fund house may ask for a fresh KYC — a one-time Aadhaar-based re-KYC removes the friction.
Under ProcessA KYC or modification request has been submitted and is still with the KRA.Wait a few working days and check again. No action needed unless it stays stuck.
On HoldSomething on the record does not match — commonly an unlinked PAN and Aadhaar, an invalid mobile or email, or an outdated address proof.Link PAN with Aadhaar if pending, then complete a re-KYC with a current address proof. Fresh purchases are blocked until this clears.
RejectedThe KRA could not accept the documents submitted — usually a mismatch in name, signature or proof quality.Submit a fresh KYC with clean, current documents. Ask for the rejection reason first.

Re-KYC and updating your details

Keeping the record current

Address, mobile number, email and bank details all sit on your KYC record. When any of them are out of date, a purchase with a new fund house can be rejected even though your KYC looks complete — the fund house cannot validate you against the KRA record.

  • Address, mobile, email: submit a KYC modification form with a current proof, either through a fund house, a registrar such as CAMS or KFintech, or your distributor.
  • Bank details: these are updated folio by folio with the registrar, not at the KRA.
  • PAN–Aadhaar link: get this done first. Most On Hold statuses clear once the link is in place and an Aadhaar-based re-KYC is submitted.
Link not opening?

These KYC pages are run by the KRAs themselves, not by this website. They are occasionally down, slow, or show a loading error — especially outside Indian business hours. If that happens:

  • Try the other KRA link above — your PAN may be registered with either one.
  • Retry in a few hours — these outages are usually short.

Mutual fund KYC FAQs

How do I check my mutual fund KYC status?

Enter your PAN on a KRA portal such as CVL KRA or KFintech KRA. If your PAN is already KYC verified with any KRA, you can invest across all fund houses without repeating the process.

Do I need to complete KYC separately for every mutual fund?

No. Mutual fund KYC is a one-time, industry-wide process. Once your PAN is KYC verified with a registered KRA, it works across every Indian mutual fund house.

What is the difference between KYC Validated and KYC Registered?

Validated means the KRA has validated your details against an Aadhaar-based source, so every fund house accepts it. Registered means your KYC is complete but based on other documents, so a new fund house may still ask you to complete a fresh KYC.

My KYC status shows On Hold. What do I do?

On Hold usually means PAN and Aadhaar are not linked, or the address, mobile or email on record could not be validated. Link PAN with Aadhaar if that is pending, then complete a re-KYC with current proof. New purchases stay blocked until the status clears.

Is my demat or bank KYC valid for mutual funds?

Not automatically. A KYC done for a demat account sits with a KRA and often carries across, but a KYC done only with your bank does not. Check your PAN on a KRA portal to see what is actually recorded for mutual funds.

How long does a re-KYC take?

An online Aadhaar-based re-KYC is usually processed within a few working days. A physical or document-based submission can take longer, depending on the KRA and the fund house.

Can NRIs use the same KYC process?

Yes, the KRA system is the same, but NRIs submit additional documents such as passport, visa or overseas address proof, and the KYC is linked to an NRE or NRO bank account. The status check by PAN works exactly the same way.
